Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.), one of the leading organizations in the Fix Our Homes Illinois Coalition, has an intern, Dani Ediriweera, who has been busy compiling a list of home repair resources for seniors across the state.
One of the goals of the Fix Our Homes Illinois coalition is to keep inventory and publicize home repair programs that already exist for people who need it. Rather than simply posting the list on our website, we want to create a space where organizations who are advocating for home repair for seniors can come together to have a discussion about successes and challenges.
What we know is that according to the DePaul Institute for Housing Studies, over 600,000 homeowners in the State of Illinois are low-income seniors with 3 out of 4 of them living in homes that are over 50 years old and in need of repair or upgrades that they cannot afford. There is a great need for home repair in the state, and there are also programs dedicated to meeting that need. Join us on March 3 at 11 AM on zoom as Dani presents her research on home repair resources across the state. REGISTER HERE and invite others to do the same.
